Marriage & Divorce Records

Unlike ordering a certificate of marriage or divorce, doing research on these records is relatively easy and free, and can be done online through the Oakland County Clerk’s Office website. You will need to know some basic information such as the names of the individuals involved and the approximate date of marriage or divorce.

Alternatively, you can use their free genealogy site at https://courts.oakgov.com/OakGnlg/. This service allows you to search and order marriage and death records that have occurred in Oakland County. Select the record type that you are searching for, or select ‘All’ to receive both marriage and death records in the same search. Then enter the name of the person(s) you are interested in and select ‘Search’. You can also search for marriage records by date, or call (248) 858-0571 for help.

Divorce cases are a bit different. Unlike marriages, these cases are considered civil suits and usually go before a judge. To view divorce cases in Oakland County, MI, use their Court Explorer at https://courtexplorer.oakgov.com/oaklandcounty/SearchCases. Select the “Advanced Search” option and input DM for divorce with minor children, and DO for divorce without children, followed by names of the parties involved.
